Meander
Located in the green hillside neighborhood of Jelenovac, Zagreb, this residential building is shaped by the dialogue between geometry and landscape. Set among dense vegetation and sloping terrain, the project responds to its natural surroundings with a calm architectural language defined by movement, openness, and framed views.
The façade concept is based on a meander, a continuous shifting line that folds, advances, and retreats across the building envelope. This gesture gives the architecture its identity: terraces become extensions of interior space, corners open toward the forest, and deep horizontal frames create rhythm, shadow, and privacy. Rather than a static façade, the building reads as a flowing composition shaped by motion.
Organized over three levels with one apartment per floor, the building offers a sense of privacy more typical of individual houses than collective housing. Each residence benefits from generous outdoor terraces, large openings, and direct visual contact with the surrounding greenery. Built-in fireplaces on the terraces transform these exterior spaces into year-round living rooms, places for gathering, retreat, and everyday rituals.
The sloped terrain is carefully integrated into the project, allowing access, parking, and landscape to step naturally with the site. Retaining walls, planted edges, and elevated views reinforce the connection between architecture and topography.
The result is a residential structure that combines exclusivity with serenity, a contemporary villa building where urban living meets the atmosphere of the forest.
