Adriatic Calm
Located in Vabriga, on the western coast of Istria, this apartment building draws its identity from the balance between contemporary living and the quiet character of the Mediterranean landscape. The project interprets local materiality and climate through a modern architectural language that is warm, composed, and deeply connected to place.
The building is organized as a clear horizontal composition, where generous terraces extend across every level and define the façade rhythm. These continuous outdoor bands provide privacy, shade, and everyday living space, transforming balconies into true exterior rooms. Their repetition gives the architecture a calm cadence while emphasizing the length and openness of the volume.
Material selection plays a central role in shaping atmosphere. Natural stone elements anchor the entrances and base of the building, recalling the masonry traditions of Istrian towns. Warm earth-toned plaster and darker vertical accents introduce depth, contrast, and a refined residential identity. Together, these textures create a façade that feels both contemporary and familiar.
Large glazed openings connect interiors with terraces, bringing daylight deep into the apartments while strengthening the relationship between inside and outside. The surrounding landscape continues this idea through olive trees, Mediterranean planting, and open green surfaces that soften the geometry of the architecture.
Parking and access are discreetly integrated into the site, allowing the pedestrian experience to remain dominant. Arrival is framed through greenery, stone, and shaded transitional spaces rather than through infrastructure alone.
The architecture does not compete with the setting, it belongs to it. Through proportion, material warmth, and a measured rhythm of terraces, the building offers a contemporary coastal lifestyle shaped by light, air, and the timeless calm of Istria.
